Mayor Unveils Expansion Plans for Langley Events Centre
In a significant development, Mayor Eric Woodward has revealed ambitious plans for expanding the Langley Events Centre (LEC). This $149 million project was announced in the presence of local council members, youth sports representatives, and notable figures such as Langley East MLA Megan Dykeman and Minister of Municipal Affairs Anne Kang. The project aims to introduce three ice rinks and two dry-floor arenas to meet the growing needs of Langley’s population.
Construction Details and Timeline
Construction on the new facilities will begin this year, potentially before the holiday season. They will be strategically located just north of Building B. Mayor Woodward emphasized the importance of planning for the future and recognized the contributions of past mayors and councils to the existing Langley Events Centre. He described the project as a “generational step forward,” addressing the increasing demand for youth sports and balancing dry-floor and ice sports.
Innovative Design Features
The new arena building will feature an underground parking facility, a first for the site. Above the parking structure, three ice rinks will be built, one with substantial stadium seating. Additionally, two dry-floor arenas will complement the ice rinks. This innovative design aims to meet the growing demand for diverse sporting activities in the community.
