In a noteworthy development set to reshape Langley Township’s sports scene, Mayor Eric Woodward has unveiled ambitious plans for a substantial expansion at the Langley Events Centre (LEC). This announcement, made in the presence of local council members, youth sports representatives, and notable figures like Langley East MLA Megan Dykeman and Minister of Municipal Affairs Anne Kang, marks a significant milestone in the community’s pursuit of cutting-edge facilities. With a budget of $149 million, the proposed expansion aims to introduce three ice rinks and two dry-floor arenas, strategically meeting the evolving needs of Langley’s growing population.

Key Details

Construction on the new facilities, strategically located just north of Building B, will commence as early as this year, potentially preceding the holiday season. Mayor Woodward emphasized the importance of building for the future, acknowledging the contributions of past mayors and councils that laid the foundation for the existing Langley Events Centre. Referred to as a “generational step forward,” the project is designed to accommodate the increasing demand for youth sports while harmonizing the intersection of dry-floor and ice sports.

The innovative design of the new arena building features an underground parking facility—a first for the site. Above the parking structure, three ice rinks, one with substantial stadium seating, will be situated, complemented by two dry-floor arenas. This design comprehensively solves the growing demand for diverse sporting activities.
